With the recent update, private organizations can now register on the SHe-Box portal.

While registration is not currently mandatory for all states,  it is strongly recommended.

Delhi (NCT) On 12 June 2025, the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of NCT Delhi issued a public notice making SHe‑Box registration compulsory for all public and private organizations. The requirement took effect immediately from the date of the notice and mandated no later than 1 July 2025, in subsequent regulatory communications.

Originally launched in 2017, the SHe-Box was conceived as an online complaint redressal mechanism for women facing sexual harassment at work. The Ministry of Women and Child Development (“MWCD”) has relaunched the Sexual Harassment Electronic Box (“SHe-Box”) portal to enhance transparency and enforceability. This platform will now function both as a complaint portal and a compliance-monitoring tool with greater emphasis on employer accountability.

In its landmark 2023 judgment in Aureliano Fernandes vs. State of Goa & Ors., the Supreme Court of India expressed deep concern over widespread non-compliance with the POSH Act. The Court directed that all organizations with more than ten employees must:

  • Establish an IC.
  • Appoint a Nodal Officer for POSH compliance.
  • Upload IC and Nodal Officer details on the SHe-Box portal.

The features of the SHe box include the following:

  1. Complaint filing: It enables any woman, whether in the public or private sector, including formal, informal, or unorganized work to register online complaints directly through the portal.
  2. Secure & confidential handling: The SHe-Box portal masks the identity of the complainant enabling only the IC/LC Chairperson to view the details of the complaint, this preserving strict confidentiality.
  3. Auto-Forwarding of complaints: Complaints registered on the SHe-Box portal are routed automatically to the relevant IC/LC depending on the workplace of the complainant. If an IC is not registered, the SHe-Box portal notifies nodal officer to ensure timely registration.
  4. Complaint tracking mechanism: A new feature enables the Complainants to receive a tracking ID so that they can monitor the status of their complaint online.
  5. Transparency Measures: ICs are now required to upload regular updates on complaint status.
  6. Enhances employer accountability: Employers must register their IC details, upload compliance reports, and ensure timely action by the IC in response to report POSH compliance.

Following the Supreme Court’s directives, the National Stock Exchange instructed all relevant organizations to email details of their IC members, names, designations, emails, and contact numbers, along with Nodal Officer information to a particular email ID and upload them to the SHe-Box portal within 15 days of receiving the circular.

Despite its improvements, SHe-Box still faces several hurdles.

  1. The portal is only available in English and Hindi, excluding non-Hindi-speaking populations.
  1. Most women in rural and semi-urban areas lack internet access or digital literacy.
  2. Filing a complaint requires access to a registered mobile number and email, resources that not all women may possess.
  1. The system can only forward complaints to ICs, but if those ICs are inactive or biased, the redressal process can break down at the ground level.

Step-by-Step on How to Register on the SHe-Box Portal:

  2. Select “Private Head Office Registration”
  3. Fill in all required details including: Nodal Officer’s name and contact and Presiding Officer/Legal Officer/Compliance Officer details
